About This Place

Karikku Cafe, nestled in the heart of Fremont, CA, is a vibrant culinary destination for anyone eager to indulge in authentic Kerala and broader South Indian flavors. This Indian restaurant prides itself on delivering a rich tapestry of tastes that transport diners straight to the spice-laden kitchens of Kerala, capturing the essence of coastal South India with every dish.

The moment you step into Karikku Cafe, you're greeted by an inviting ambiance that balances casual comfort with the promise of a memorable meal. Whether you’re settling in for a leisurely lunch or a hearty dinner, the atmosphere complements the robust, soul-satisfying fare that awaits.

On the menu, the variety is both impressive and thoughtfully curated. Standout dishes such as Appam and Malabar Parotta serve as perfect companions for richly spiced curries like the Beef Peralan and Chicken Roast. The Thalassery Chicken Biryani and Mutton Thalassery Biryani entice with their aromatic layers of spices and tender meat, while vegetarian options like the Paneer Biryani and Vegetable Biryani are equally indulgent, bursting with fresh herbs and saffron’s subtle warmth.

Karikku Cafe excels at combining texture and flavor — from the crispy, golden edges of the Fish Fry to the velvety richness of the Mix Veg Stew. The Egg Roast and Chicken 65 add delightful notes of spice and depth, while their tea and chai selections offer a soothing end to the meal. Don't miss the traditional desserts like Ada Pradhaman, a luscious payasam that balances jaggery sweetness with the creaminess of coconut milk, or the melt-in-your-mouth Gulab Jamun.

Customer experiences mirror the authenticity and quality of the food. Mihir Phadke praises the freshness and well-balanced spice levels, particularly noting the generous servings of rice that accompany dishes like Meen Vattichathu and Malabar fish curry. Another enthusiastic diner, FoodForThought, highlights the perfectly fluffy Kerala parotta and the unforgettable Chicken Varuthara gravy, emphasizing how Karikku Cafe brings true Kerala flavors to Fremont’s dining scene.

Charles Scudiere, PhD, describes the food as some of the best South Indian cuisine he has ever encountered, applauding the powerful spices and unforgettable taste that also evoke fond memories. The fusion dishes such as Gobi Manchurian impress with their unique blend of crispy, spicy, and slightly sweet sensations.

While most reviews celebrate the cafe’s culinary offerings, some mention occasional variance in texture, such as beef dishes that could benefit from a softer preparation, showing Karikku Cafe’s honest commitment to refinement and customer feedback.

Fantastic spot for Kerali food. My table got the fish cutlet, meen vattichathu, and Malabar fish curry with appam and rice. Everything was super fresh, flavourful, and well portioned. The spice level of the meen vattichathu was just right and not so overpowering that I couldn't enjoy the taste of the fish. Also one small thing I liked is that they give plenty of rice in a single order — enough for 2 people. In terms of service, the staff are all polite but the service is pretty slow. We had to wait nearly 30 minutes for our order while other people who came in after us had already started receiving their food. The restaurant itself is spacious, clean, and well-kept. Overall, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out.

If you’re looking to savor authentic Kerala cuisine, Karikku Cafe in Fremont is a must-visit. We tried the Kerala parotta, which was perfectly soft, fluffy, and not overly oily, alongside Appam that paired beautifully with the rich Chicken Varuthara gravy. The highlight was the Karimeen masala, which was packed with flavor and complemented the other dishes wonderfully. The service was quick and efficient, making the overall dining experience delightful. Highly recommend this place for anyone craving traditional Kerala flavors!

Some of the best South Indian food I've ever had, full of tasty spices and delicious powerful flavor. We ordered enough for double our party and loved every dish. Brought back memories for my partner living in India. Wonderful food and friendly staff. We especially liked their Porotta, Gobi Manchurian, Mutton Pepper Curry, and of course their special Mango Lassi. Can't wait to go back!

The food was okay . All the dishes were bland. Vegetarian lunch came with Aviyal, Kadalai Curry, and Mota Rice. It was a safe pick. NON VEG STARTER - Fish masala was average, so tiny pieces, and it's very hard. Felt.lile chicken. Bites, not the fish. Beef Masala - It should have been a little more softer. It's too dry. I felt it's too much cooked so hard to bite some pieces. Masala was good and tasty as usual. Everything is bland. I liked the masala taste. Mutton Curry with Porotta - Taste really good. It's one of my favorite dishes. Nicely cooked. Ghee Rice - Nice Aroma. Ghee rice is full of cashew and curry leaves. Best VEG choice for any curries. Appam - Definitely needs improvement. Too much sour. Felt too much fermented Batter. Overall. All dishes are average, and the best pick was VEGETARIAN meals. All the items were filled with curry leaves. Definitely will try new items.

Wow wow, so good. My favorite Malayalee resturant. Eat this when you get there: chicken biriani, masala fish, beef cutlet, mour (add salt), beef playan, and butter chicken. Check out my pictures. You'll notice that most of the food is gone that’s because the food is so darn good. I should’ve thought about taking pictures before but you get the point.. This food has a lot of ruchie!! Nallathanu.

I was here with my friend for her birthday celebration. The place seemed crowded but that was for takeout orders. When we came here there were few tables left and so we got to choose whichever we watched to choose to sit in. We were looking for a menu though to our ignorance the QR code menu was already given on the table. Still the server got the menu card as well but the QR code has better menu items. We ordered egg curry, appam, parotta, mushroom varutharicha curry and coffee. We were so engrossed in talking as we were meeting after a decade that we couldn't stop for anything as the food was delivered we were enjoying it wholeheartedly. I think when we saw that chairs were getting flipped, we realised it was time to close the restaurant and hence we happily left the place. The staff is really friendly with great service, delicious food and the simple ambience where people add the galore to it. I will highly recommend this place if you're looking for a Kerala cuisine.

Delicious and authentic I like the chunky fish dish, it was pretty spicy The appam was like enjira it was really good. The fluffy roti swirl was also pretty solid but the appam tasted better with the entrees. I also liked the yogurt they served with the chicken biryani. The chicken was also really spicy I’d get the gobi (tempura cauliflower) again, it was fantastic altho it had maybe a little too much sauce The prawn coconut curry was ok I didn’t like how sweet it was. It tasted like sweet tomato sauce Stewed beef curry was pretty good as well but I prefer the cauliflower, fish curry, and appam more Lots of Indian American families with their young kids

First time trying the restaurant. It was a weekday night so not busy at all. We instantly got seated. You have the option of ordering via the QR code from the table or you can order via a server. There was only one person at the counter though who was doing everything. Since it was not busy so it didn’t matter or delay anything. We ordered a bunch of dishes. Butter chicken - it was surprisingly good. I did not have much hopes since this was a South Indian restaurant. Perfect dish for the little ones. Beef curry (forgot the actual name of the dish). That was also very tasty. Although I would have preferred more meat. For the bread, I ordered the porota’s (the layered bread). They were also cooked nice and not from the frozen. We also tried Appam which was also lovely. Food is served in small bowls, like the ones you use at home. So my first impression was that the food is not going to be enough. But actually it was the right amount. Would prefer to have more meat. All in all a good experience. Would highly recommend
